Loretta Bourque never planned to be quilting at NuNu's on Thursdays. She had lived her entire life in Arnaudville.  After earning a degree in education at USL, now UL of Lafayette, Loretta taught at Arnaudville Elementary for her entire teaching career.

Loretta is married to Larry Bourque and sometime around 2009, he was asked to lend a hand at NuNu's Arts and Culture Collective. Larry is an expert in problem solving.  Loretta had just retired and she started attending events at NuNu's with Larry.  She remembers telling Mavis that she would like to learn how to quilt.  Mavis answered:  "Let's make that happen." That was the start of Les Coudre Points Quilting En Francais.

Loretta is the Director of the Textile Collective.  There is more than quilting.  Sometimes, some of the participants bring knitting, crocheting and tatting is in the works.
About Loretta
Loretta excitedly explains that all of this just sort of happened. A blacksmith and his wife came to NuNu's for one of the events. Loretta got to talking with the wife and she told Loretta that a nun in a nursing home had taught her had to tat. She had 5 or 6 lessons with the nun who charged her $20. Now, she will share her knowledge in this near extinct hobby with Les Coudre Points Tatting En Francais.

When Loretta needed a quilting frame for the Textile Collective, it was Larry who consulted with his father and then with more research, he came up with the perfect frame for the quilting group. The quilting frame itself is a work of art. Larry is an artist who exhibits his creations at NuNu's.

Loretta and Larry Bourque are the parents of two children and they have 4 grandchildren. These happy grandparents have found a way to make retirement interesting, exciting and creative.

Thank you to Loretta and Larry Bourque for all they do for the Arnaudville community.

If you are looking for a fun activity on Thursday afternoons, stop by NuNu's on Highway 93 between Arnaudville and Grand Coteau and join the Textile Collective.
