Jill Hackney grew up in New Orleans where she attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). She studied painting and drawing at Louisiana State University where she earned a BFA. Jill was awarded a scholarship and spent a semester at the Cleveland Institute of Art where she studied painting.

Upon completion of her BFA, she first worked as a photographer, and then as a high school art teacher. She also taught adult art classes as a Louisiana State University “Leisure Course” art teacher.

Jill is a founding member and twice president of Studio 801, an artist cooperative in Baton Rouge that exhibited tri-annually. Jill was recently selected as a “Fellow” of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation for her work as president of the NUNU Arts and Culture Collective. She is also on the board of the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts.

Jill is currently working in the media of oil paint, focusing on still life and landscape.
